The Privacy Dashboard is one of Android's most useful and least-used features. It shows a 24-hour timeline of every time an app accessed location, camera, or microphone — including background access you'd otherwise never notice.

Settings > Security & privacy > Privacy > Privacy dashboard. Some manufacturers move it slightly — on Samsung it lives under Settings > Security and privacy > Permission usage.

How to read the timeline

Tap any of the three rings (Location, Camera, Microphone) for a chronological list. Each entry shows the app and the time of access. Look for repeated background access from apps you weren't using.

Tap an app to jump straight to its permission settings. If you see weather apps grabbing location every hour, switch them to approximate location and disable background access. If you see a flashlight or QR-scanner app using the camera while you weren't holding the phone, uninstall it.

Key takeaways

  • The Privacy Dashboard tracks the last 24 hours of camera, mic, and location use.
  • Background access is the most common surprise — and the easiest to fix.
  • Tapping an entry takes you straight to its permission controls.

Frequently asked questions

Can I extend the history beyond 24 hours?
Not on stock Android. Some custom ROMs and third-party privacy apps offer longer logs.
